Introduction

PLans is a mobile application designed to empower women to take control of their reproductive health. By combining a sophisticated period tracker with AI-powered support, doctor consultations, and curated health information, PLans offers a seamless and user-friendly experience for women at all stages of their reproductive lives – from teenagers navigating puberty to couples planning a family and mothers managing postpartum health.

Design Objectives:

  • Simplify complex data: Present health information and menstrual cycle data in a clear and understandable way.

  • Prioritize user privacy: Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive user data.

  • Create an engaging and intuitive interface: Develop a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate experience for all user groups.

Process

Research:

I took a look at what other popular period tracker apps were out there, like Flo, Clue, and Maya. I explored their features, what they did well, where they could improve, and how they presented important information about cycles, moods, and all that jazz. It was like checking out the competition to learn from their successes and avoid their pitfalls.

Next, I got to know my users. Who was I designing this for? What were their needs and preferences? I chatted with potential users, maybe through surveys or interviews, to understand what they were looking for in a period tracker app. What did they love or hate about existing apps? What made tracking their cycle a breeze (or a pain)? This helped me paint a picture of my ideal user and what made them tick.

Design:

I started sketching out the app. This is where I mapped out the screens and how everything flowed together. Imagine drawing a roadmap for how users would input their data, navigate the calendar, and find the information they needed. I used digital tools to bring these sketches to life as wireframes, like blueprints for my app.

Now for the fun part: designing the look and feel! I created a style guide, like a mood board for my app, with the fonts, colors, and icons that gave it a unique personality. Then I designed the building blocks of my app – buttons, input fields, and all those interactive elements. Think of it like creating a set of Lego bricks that I could use to build out the interface.

Finally, I combined everything to create the actual UI. I took those wireframes and dressed them up with the visual elements I designed. I added images, icons, and illustrations to make it all come together beautifully. I even created a clickable prototype to see how it all worked in action and got feedback from real users. And of course, I kept refining and improving my design based on what I learned.

PLans needed a cohesive online presence to build trust and attract clients. I designed a landing page with clear information about their services, testimonials, and a calming color scheme to establish their brand as trustworthy and supportive. I also created social media templates with consistent branding elements (logo, colors, imagery) for educational, inspirational, and promotional content to maintain a unified brand voice across platforms.
